Liverpool’s match against Arsenal on Sunday will live long in the memory for all the wrong reasons.

After 20 minutes it had looked as though it was going to be a brilliant day for the Reds.

Having already received a guard of honour from Arsenal and put two early goals past them, Liverpool had seemed primed to put on a show at Anfield.

However, things turned sour when Trent Alexander-Arnold emerged from the substitutes bench with 23 minutes left to play.

Alexander-Arnold was roundly booed by Liverpool fans, leading to a strange atmosphere during the remainder of the game, which ended 2-2.

After the match, Dominik Szoboszlai was spotted gesturing for Liverpool fans to stop booing his teammate on the pitch.

And after making his feelings known, Szoboszlai soon posted a message on Instagram.

Szoboszlai had another decent game for Liverpool on Sunday.

The Hungarian rolled the ball perfectly into Luis Diaz’s path to register his sixth Premier League assist of the season.

And if the Alexander-Arnold issue put a dampener on his day, Szoboszlai did not show it while sending a post out on Sunday night.

“Anfield, together,” wrote the 24-year-old, along with some photos from the game and, crucially, of him applauding fans at the end.

Alexis Mac Allister was another who hailed Anfield, despite all the negative noise coming from the stands.

“Lovely to see Anfield enjoying the championship!” wrote the Argentine, who was substituted on at the same time as Alexander-Arnold.

With the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo also sharing match-related posts, there was no mention of Alexander-Arnold or the boos that followed him.

It should be remembered that only two weeks ago, the whole Liverpool squad were partying jubilantly in front of the Kop.

On that day, many of those players forged bonds that will stay with them throughout their lives.

For those who are slightly newer to the club, something like the Alexander-Arnold situation could threaten to weaken those bonds slightly.

However, much of how players like Szoboszlai and Mac Allister frame the boos will be down to Alexander-Arnold’s reaction to it.

In our opinion, Alexander-Arnold absolutely understood why he was being booed and is unlikely to make a bigger deal out of the situation.
