Liverpool players were quick in their reaction after an announcement was made by the club regarding Hugo Ekitike.

Liverpool have started the Premier League season with a 100% record with three wins out of three, with Arne Slot aiming to retain the league title.

Ekitike has already made a strong impression since his arrival, scoring twice in the league and also finding the net in the Community Shield.

While performances may not have impressed as a whole, the reigning champions have continued to find a way to win, whether that’s Rio Ngumoha’s last-minute winner at Newcastle or Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick against Arsenal from 32 yards.

Now, the club have made an announcement regarding Ekitike that earned reactions on social media.

Following his impressive form ever since his debut, Ekitike has been recognised for his displays, as he was nominated for Player of the Month for August by the Premier League.

The official club account posted the news on Instagram and the announcement saw plenty of reaction with Ngumoha, Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez all liking the message.

He faces competition for the award with teammate Szoboszlai also in the running, alongside Riccardo Calafiori, Jack Grealish, Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo also nominated for the player of the month.

The Frenchman started his Liverpool career on fire with four goals and assists in all competitions after his move earlier this summer.

Newcastle also wanted to sign Ekitike but the striker prioritised a move to Merseyside, even though the Reds eventually signed top target Alexander Isak.

Despite Ekitike arriving for £79 million, Liverpool broke the British record to sign Isak in a deal worth £130m.

The Sweden international has added to the Reds’ attacking ranks, which now boasts the likes of Florian Wirtz, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo alongside Ekitike.

While some may have questioned if a formation change could be on the cards,  Football Insider revealed Slot is unlikely to change Liverpool’s system.

It is understood that Ekitike is likely to feature from the left flank when deployed alongside Isak, ensuring both big-money arrivals can operate within Slot’s set-up, but time will tell if it disrupts the balance of the team.
