Newcastle United earned a morale-boosting draw against Tottenham Hotspur in Seoul on Sunday, with a number of eye-catching performances.

Despite going behind early, the Magpies fought back, with Harvey Barnes netting a powerful near-post equaliser shortly before half-time.

The likes of Nick Pope, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon put in strong showings in a match that will come as a huge relief to manager Eddie Howe, following consecutive defeats to Celtic, Arsenal and the K-League All Stars — not to mention the Alexander Isak saga and ongoing frustrating summer window.

But for all the big stars on show, it was a youngster who really caught the eye of Newcastle supporters.

Seung-soo Park only officially completed his move to Newcastle from Suwon Bluewings at the end of July, arriving in the North East with just 28 senior club matches under his belt, notching one goal and three assists.

But given Sunday’s match was played in his native South Korea, against the backdrop of Son Heung-min playing his final game for Spurs, it wasn’t surprising to see the teenage winger given a runout at the end.

And it’s not taken long for Park to make an impression.

The winger had an immediate impact on the match, upping the tempo for Newcastle and getting his side back on the front foot.

Park completed all six of his passes, while in just 14 minutes, he created one chance, attempted one cross, made two tackles, and won two of his three contested ground duels (FotMob).

Newcastle supporters were not shy in their praise for Park, who got plenty of love for his eye-catching cameo — despite his market value still being judged at the €175k mark (Transfermarkt).

Eddie Howe will be glad to see the back of this summer, and while he won’t want to part ways with Alexander Isak — who is yet to play in pre-season — a quick solution either way is best for the club so that they can move forward.

“There needs to be a resolution on this soon for Newcastle’s sake,” he told Football Insider.

“It’s been a really difficult window for Eddie Howe for all sorts of reasons, they’ve missed out on other players, if they were to lose Isak it would be a huge blow.

“But the whole saga is casting a shadow over Newcastle going into the new Premier League season.

“Newcastle are within their rights, he’s on a long-term contract and they want big, big money for him.

“If the player has his heart set on moving elsewhere, Newcastle will have to reluctantly move him on and try to bring in a replacement.

“It’s going to drag on, but the player is obviously unhappy and wants to move to Liverpool.

“Newcastle are trying to get top dollar for him, so talks are ongoing between the two clubs and between Isak’s representatives and Newcastle to see if a resolution can be made.

“For everybody involved, they want to get it resolved as soon as possible.

“The longer it drags on, it’s going to leave a cloud hanging over Newcastle and a bit of an atmosphere around the training ground as well.

“Eddie Howe, reluctantly, will be willing to let Isak move on if his heart isn’t with the club any more and then they can use the money to strengthen his squad.”
