Mikel Arteta believes it is right that Liverpool are given a guard of honour on Sunday despite admitting Arsenal "don't really want" to perform the tribute.
The Gunners visit Anfield this weekend having been comprehensively beaten to the Premier League title by the Reds, who last month clinched a 20th championship with four games to spare.
Arsenal, who stand 15 points behind Arne Slot's side in second place, will be without a trophy for a fifth successive season after they were dumped out of the Champions League semi-finals by Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.
And while accepting his team will reluctantly salute Liverpool, Arteta hopes the hurt caused can act as inspiration to depose the Reds next term.

"Something has to drive you, to motivate you and pain is probably a good one to use when you don’t really want to do something, but it’s the right thing to do and then use that as a motivation for next season," said the Arsenal boss.
"But they (Liverpool) deserve that guard of honour because they have been the best team and they fully deserve it.
When somebody is better, you have to applaud and accept it and try to reach that level."

Looking ahead to next season, Arteta added: "They (Liverpool) will hold that trophy and somebody has to come and take it out of their hands, and I'm sure that we're going to have a lot of contenders and very well-prepared contenders to raise their level again and make it very difficult.
"We are there, because with the amount of points that we have generated in the last few seasons, we could have two Premier Leagues.

Mohamed Salah is on course to be the Premier League Golden Boot having scored 28 goals in 35 appearances in the competition this season.
And Arteta has pinpointed the difference in firepower between the two teams as reason for Liverpool's title success.
"I think if you score over 90 goals (Liverpool have 81 so far this campaign compared to 64 of Arsenal), you have a high, high probability of winning the Premier League," said Arteta.
"It doesn't guarantee you, but you have a high probability if the defensive record is very good as well, and very dependable as well, against who and in which moment this striker, this winger in this case, has scored the goals and how many points he is contributing to those goals as well."
