Dutch journalist Martijn Krabbendam has provided the latest update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Feyenoord manager Arne Slot.

It was reported that the Reds and Feyenoord are edging closer to finalizing an agreement for Slot to succeed Jurgen Klopp as the club’s manager.

Negotiations have progressed positively, although there’s no settled amount yet, contrary to reports suggesting £9.85 million.

Slot, who guided Feyenoord to their second Eredivisie title last season, emerged as the frontrunner after Liverpool conducted thorough due diligence on all potential candidates.

Despite Xabi Alonso initially being a top contender, his decision to stay at Bayer Leverkusen ruled him out.

Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim made Liverpool’s shortlist, but his tactical approach and long-term vision didn’t align with the club’s philosophy and squad dynamics.

Slot, on the other hand, was deemed the ideal fit both in terms of footballing philosophy and interpersonal skills, making him the preferred choice for Liverpool’s managerial position.

On Thursday, Slot expressed confidence that a deal would be reached.

He said: “Everybody understands Feyenoord will want to receive as much money as they can get, but I get the feeling that they will not begrudge me this move.

“I expect that things will become clearer over the next few days.”

Despite Slot’s optimism about potentially becoming the new Liverpool manager, there’s been a recent update on the negotiations.

According to Martijn Krabbendam, “the management of #Feyenoord spoke extensively with Liverpool today about #Slot.

Matter of time #LFC.”

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has offered his verdict on Arne Slot, with the current Reds boss praising the Dutchman’s achievements at Feyenoord.

 “I’m not involved in the process, but I like a lot about it if he is the one and wants to take the job.

Some people I know, know him.

“I don’t know him, but some people who know him say he’s a good guy.

“I like that a lot.

Great job, great team, fantastic people.

“[Slot] ‘would’ [Klopp makes quote marks sign with his fingers] be taking a really interesting job.”
