Dutch journalist Suleyman Ozturk has criticized pundits who claimed they were unfamiliar with the incoming Liverpool manager Arne Slot.
Last week, it was announced that the Reds had reached an agreement with Feyenoord for Slot to take over as their new boss in the summer.
FSG has been searching for a replacement since Jurgen Klopp announced his departure from Anfield earlier this year.
Slot is relatively unknown in England, having managed Feyenoord since 2021 and before that, AZ Alkmaar.
Over the past two seasons, the 45-year-old has led Feyenoord to victory in the Dutch domestic cup and the Eredivisie.
Understandably, his style and background were not widely known prior to his link with the Liverpool job.
Legendary striker Robbie Fowler admitted in his Daily Mirror column that he had to search for information about the Dutchman online.
“I’ll be honest, I hadn’t a clue Slot was even in the conversation among the power brokers who run Liverpool,” the 49-year-old said.
“He wasn’t someone who jumped out at me as a candidate.
In fact, I knew nothing about Slot at all or the way he plays and, probably like many people, I dived into Google to check him out.
“He’s done OK at Feyenoord the last couple of seasons, but only time will tell if he can take Liverpool to greater heights than Klopp managed.
“That will be a tall order, but the more pressing problem for Liverpool is getting some stability back into players feeling the effects of Jurgen’s imminent departure.”
Such remarks have provoked Ozturk, who is associated with the respected Voetbal International.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the English media’s coverage of Slot, saying: “About the English, you can say that they are islanders and they have a habit of not looking beyond the island.
“The English clubs are a bit more advanced than the public and analysts because a lot of nonsense comes out.
“That you don’t know Arne Slot, for me that’s a reason to take you off the air.
“Whatever country you live or work in, that’s just crazy.
That Slot is not known to the Liverpool public, I understand that.
“You’re a Liverpool fan and you sit down to watch Feyenoord, then you’d have a strange hobby?
“If you don’t know someone, you go and see what he looks like.
“He has since been called an Erik ten Hag 2.0, but you have to immerse yourself in him.”
