It is starting to feel like Arne Slot’s appointment is just a matter of time at this stage.
This week, the Feyenoord manager has become a top priority after several credible reports identified him as the leading candidate.
Initially, when Jurgen Klopp declared his intention to resign in January, Xabi Alonso was seen as the frontrunner.
It was thought that Liverpool’s management might persuade him to leave Bayer Leverkusen.
However, Alonso has publicly committed to staying with the newly crowned Bundesliga champions for the upcoming season.
Subsequently, attention shifted to Ruben Amorim, whose impressive achievements at Sporting CP suggested a promising managerial future.
Yet, interest from West Ham, among other factors, led Liverpool to halt further pursuit of the 39-year-old.
Now, Feyenoord’s Arne Slot has surfaced as a viable option for the Anfield leadership.
The Dutch manager is the focus of Liverpool’s efforts and has also spoken very honestly in the media about the opportunity to manage Liverpool.
Speaking to the press last night before Feyenoord’s 3-1 win over Go Ahead Eagles last night, he said:
“I’d like to become new Liverpool manager, my intentions are clear,” Slot said to ESPN Netherlands.
“The clubs are negotiating, so I’m still on hold.
“We have to wait until an agreement is reached, but I have every confidence in that.”
Two names to follow Arne Slot to Liverpool
Dutch outlet De Telegraaf has named two possible staff members that could follow Slot to Anfield.
Sipke Hulshoff, Slot’s assistant manager, is almost certain to be a new face at the club.
Hulshoff is a Dutch football coach who has built his career primarily in the Netherlands, with a focus on youth development and assistant coaching roles.
He began his coaching career in the youth systems, spending significant time at SC Cambuur, one of his most notable early positions.
At Cambuur, Hulshoff eventually rose to the role of interim head coach, after Arne Slot was picked up by AZ in 2017.
The nae mentioned is Ruben Peeters?
The 31-year-old advanced his career starting as a fitness coach at KRC Genk in Belgium before moving to Feyenoord to become the Head of Performance, coinciding with Slot’s arrival in the same summer.
With current head of performance Andreas Schlumberger departing at the end of the season, it’s more than likely that Peeters is his direct replacement.
