Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida is a player that has tentatively been linked to Liverpool as a result of Arne Slot’s imminent announcement.
The Dutch manager is widely expected to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, but it is yet to be confirmed by either club.
According to Paul Joyce, Liverpool will pay Feyenoord a compensation fee of €9m plus €2m in add-ons for the services of Slot – who still has two years on his contract with the Rotterdam club.
In April, Slot publicly expressed his desire to step into the shoes of Jürgen Klopp at Anfield once the German manager steps down at the end of the season.
Initial reports suggest that Feyenoord rejected an initial compensation bid of approximately £7.7 million from Liverpool.
However, negotiations resumed, and Liverpool returned to the table to secure Slot’s appointment.
Slot is anticipated to bring along several members of his coaching staff, with two already believed to be accompanying the Dutchman.
Head of performance Ruben Peeters is said to be joining his manager as well as analyst Etienne Reijnen.
But claims of have been made that Lutsharel Geertruida could also be accompanying his manager to Merseyside.
The right-back has emerged as a reliable option under Slot’s guidance, perfectly fitting the manager’s desired role.
He is versatile, having played across the backline and even in midfield this season.
Despite spending his entire career with the Rotterdam-based club, he only cemented his place as a regular starter in the last three years.
This season, he has been particularly prominent, making 44 appearances and contributing to 11 goals.
Lutsharel Geertruida ‘not on the agenda’ for Liverpool
Dutch outlet Algemeen Dagblad have reported that the 23-year-old defender is not on the agenda for Liverpool at present,
The links to Anfield have stemmed from Arne Slot being the next (probable) Liverpool manager and the fact that the player himself was present to watch Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with West Ham last weekend.
The outlet say that Geertruida used the ‘free weekend’ to visit his friend Crysenico Summerville in London for Leeds United vs QPR.
He then took the opportunity to watch the Liverpool game, only because it was in London and he had the time.
However, there is a caveat.
The report states that “the player and the club are no longer talking about an extension, this summer it is time for a transfer.”
Geertruida then could still come to Liverpool, but it would because of the recruitment team and not Arne Slot’s recommendation.
In the previous summer, he seemed poised for a transfer to RB Leipzig for 32.5 million euros, but the agreement fell through at the eleventh hour.
It is anticipated that Geertruida’s value will decrease significantly this transfer window considering his contract will be expiring next summer.
