'Dynasty': Liverpool told they've done something this summer which even Sir Alex Ferguson would be proud of

Liverpool have a huge season ahead as they look to retain their title.

Winning back-to-back Premier League titles is one of the hardest jobs in football, but it is something the Reds will be aiming to do next season.

Not many teams can say they have done it, but one team that did it quite regularly was their bitter rivals Manchester United, with the Red Devils retaining their title on six occasions out of the 13 times they won it.

All of these titles came under Sir Alex Ferguson who is, whether Liverpool fans like to admit it or not, one of the greatest managers the division has ever seen.

Although Reds fans will never want to be compared to their rivals in any sort of way, they have been recently as they are doing something the Scotsman would have been proud of, suggesting that this is one of the few occasions where a comparison is a good thing.

They may not be very successful anymore, much to the delight of Liverpool fans, but Man United have gone through spells of dominance, with their last being in the mid to late 2000s.

One of the key reasons for this was because they showed a ruthlessness and strengthened whilst at the top, something Perry Groves believes the Reds are now also trying to replicate.

“Liverpool are channelling their inner Sir Alex Ferguson, whereby every time Manchester United won the title, they had a bit of evolution where they got rid of three players but brought in three players to go into the starting XI,” he told talkSPORT.

“From Liverpool fans’ point of view, it’s like ‘we’re back and we’re proper serious.’ They are going to try and have a dynasty now and this is going to be Arne Slot’s team.”

If they are to dominate for years to come, it certainly will not be an easy task given the quality Manchester City and Arsenal both have, although all the signs are definitely positive.

The Reds will have spent well over £200m by the time Hugo Ekitike arrives, meaning that they will start to focus on outgoings to try and balance the books.

One thing Ferguson was known for was being ruthless when it came to selling players, with the Scotsman always putting the team ahead of his players’ individual careers.

Arne Slot has to do the same and it appears he is happy to do this, with the likes of Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott and Luis Diaz all very likely to depart.

A new era at Liverpool is beginning and it is certainly an exciting time to be a fan, but only time will tell if the Reds can dominate English football just like their bitter rivals did for so long.
