Eberechi Eze has had his heart set on a move to Arsenal since the beginning of the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
The 25-year-old was prepared to accept an offer from Tottenham after they offered to double his money, alongside the opportunity to play Champions League football.
However, sources say his preference was always to join Mikel Arteta‘s side, and he showed no hesitation in accepting their offer ahead of their rivals’.
Sources say the England international’s family, all Arsenal supporters, were mocking him about making a move to Spurs when the deal looked likely.
Football Insider revealed on 11 August that Arsenal had the edge over Spurs after Eze made his desire to join the Gunners clear.

The Gunners’ last-minute swoop came after Kai Havertz suffered a knee injury which forced them into the transfer market to bolster their attacking depth.
Eze has been a long-term target, after former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in April that Arsenal “would love” to sign Eze as Arteta plans to add more creativity to his side.

Having originally made contact with the midfielder’s representatives earlier this summer, interest remained strong even when Spurs emerged as favourites.
Tottenham eventually reached an agreement with Palace, before the move was delayed late on, allowing Arsenal to swoop and hijack their deal.
He is now expected to complete the signing within days.
As Eze closes in on a move to Arsenal, the Gunners are also preparing to cash in on a number of their fringe players including Fabio Vieira.
Brown told Football Insider on 18 August that Vieira’s agent has spoken to West Ham as he continues to assess a number of options for a move away from the Emirates.

However, while he remains a name on their list and could become an option should they miss out on other targets, it is unlikely they will make a move at this stage.
Meanwhile, reports [The Athletic] have claimed Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart are working on a deal to sign the attacking midfielder as Arteta plans to move him on.
