Newcastle United’s widely reported agreement to sign Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart has dramatically shifted the landscape surrounding Alexander Isak’s proposed move to Liverpool.

The Magpies completed a deal worth €85 million plus €5 million in add-ons for the 23-year-old German international on Wednesday, with Woltemade already saying his goodbyes to his Stuttgart teammates before travelling to England for his medical.

This would represent Newcastle’s most expensive signing in history, surpassing the £63 million they paid for Isak three years ago.

DaveOCKOP.com reported on Thursday that the Reds are now expected to submit a second offer.

And now, Eddie Howe was subject to plenty of questions surrounding the future of his star striker.

Speaking in his pre-Leeds United press conference, Eddie Howe was quizzed on the narrative that Isak was promised he would be sold once a replacement was signed.

The Magpies manager denied it vehemently:

“Absolutely not.

Ultimately, I’m not in control of the whole thing – so I won’t make a promise like that to a player.”

“As I’ve said so many times, I’m not going to reveal my conversations with Alex.”

When pressed on whether the Nick Woltemade signing would open the door for the Swede to depart, Howe said:

“Well, we haven’t brought anyone in yet, we’re in the process of trying to do that.”

Finally, he was also asked on whether it would be in the best interest’s of everyone at Newcastle for Alexander Isak to leave:

“As I’ve said, that’s for other people to decide, I’m not in control of those discussions and those talks,” Howe replied.

“I’m focused on trying to bring players into the club and trying to improve the team.”

“You can’t be oblivious to things that have happened?

I have a footballing preference but then you have to take everything else into account, you can’t just be oblivious to things that have happened.”
