Alexander Isak could make his Liverpool debut this weekend against Burnley in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old left Newcastle on deadline day after a drawn-out summer saga?

He made his first appearance since May during the international break, coming off the bench in Sweden’s 2-0 defeat to Kosovo.

He registered three attempts on goal – two on target – but was also booked following a clash with Kosovo defender Fidan Aliti.

When asked if Liverpool had requested that his playing time be managed during international duty, Isak said: “Not that I know of

I’m with the national team now.

“Clubs and national teams have contact but it’s between them in such cases.

“(I played) 20 minutes and it felt okay.”

Isak, who pushed for a move to Anfield, missed Newcastle’s pre-season clash with Celtic and opted out of the club’s summer tour.

He trained alone at Real Sociedad while his teammates traveled in Asia, and later continued individual sessions on Tyneside.

According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle staff had concerns over his fitness but had prepared a plan to manage him if he stayed.

Eddie Howe’s final comments on Isak serve as a caution to Liverpool as they look to integrate their record signing.

Howe, speaking on the eve of Isak’s sale, told Chronicle Live: “Alex had been working individually with our sports science department and they have been getting him fit.

“But in terms of how match fit he is, and what he’s actually done, it is difficult to judge.

“Match fitness is very different.

“That (how long he plays for) is for Alex and Jon Dahl Tomasson to decide.”

Alexander Isak completed his first training session with his new Liverpool teammates on Wednesday.

Isak appeared in high spirits at the club’s training ground, smiling broadly as he joined Arne Slot’s squad for the first time.
