Nottingham Forest will not be doing themselves any favours by getting rid of Nuno Espirito Santo, as the fallout continues between the manager and owner Evangelos Marinakis.
The relationship between the pair has come to the fore at Nottingham Forest after Santo made critical comments about Marinakis in his pre-match press conference before the East Midlands side travel to Crystal Palace.
Santo’s position at Nottingham Forest is now precarious and he could be the first manager to receive the sack this season after also falling out with the club’s Global Head of Football, Edu.
Forest fans believed Marinakis would sack Santo in May after the club missed out on Champions League football after looking primed to take a top five spot, and they will instead compete in the Europa League this season.
Santo could lose his job at Nottingham Forest.
A 3-1 win for Forest over Brentford opened their Premier League campaign with all three points, and Marinakis has, and will continue to back Santo in the transfer market.
MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES
Former Southampton striker Matt Le Tissier has offered his verdict on the situation, exclusively telling Football Insider that there are lots of egos at the club.
“Well the football season is barely underway and already some shenanigans going on with managers, Le Tissier said.
“I mean what is happening at Nottingham Forest, with Nuno and Edu and Marinakis I mean there’s a lot of egos around that football club.
“I’m afraid they seem to be coming to the surface and so sad that a club like that shot themselves in the foot after having such a great season last year.”
Santo’s time at Forest looks to be nearing it’s conclusion following his explosive comments in his press conference.
Marinakis is an ambitious owner, but one whose emotions can get the better of him, as seen when he stormed onto the pitch and confronted Santo after Forest’s draw with Leicester City last season.
It remains unclear whether that incident was the catalyst for their relationship to diminish or whether over the summer something has happened behind the scenes.

Forest’s trip to Palace is now under more scrutiny and all Santo can do is focus on the task on the pitch, though Marinakis is unlikely to take the result under much consideration when considering the manager’s position.
Marinakis could be making a mistake letting go of a manager who has steered them to European football after Forest were previously involved in relegation battles.
