Salah led Liverpool to their first Premier League title in five years, registering 34 goals and 23 assists across all competitions
His unrivalled consistency earned him every major domestic individual honour, including the Premier League’s Golden Boot, Playmaker of the Year, PFA Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Player of the Year—an unprecedented clean sweep.
Despite Salah’s credentials, bookmakers and pundits favour Ousmanne Dembélé, whose 43 goal contributions powered PSG to a domestic treble and their maiden Champions League triumph.
The ceremony begins at 8:00 PM CET (7:00 PM BST, 2:00 PM EDT) on Monday, and it seems that the Egypt manager has made a last-minute attempt to try and get his compatriot a Ballon D’or trophy.
Hossam Hassan, who has been the Egypt manager since February of this year, wrote a passionate plea for the footballing world to to him “justice” and give Salah his flowers:
“Compared to the difficulties he faced throughout his career, he deserves them?
Given the scale of the challenges he overcome, he deserves them,” Hossam explained as quoted by WinWinSports.
“Compared to years of brilliance, excellence and creativity in the strongest league in the world, it is difficult to reach the top, but all the difficulty lies in continuing to the top.”
“He reached the top and continued it for many years thanks to God first, and his talent, diligence and determination until he became a role model for all those looking for success, so is it time for football to do him justice and justice to him, who is in the hands of choosing the winner?”
“Our prayers and the prayers of all Egyptians and all Salah fans around the world that Salah will be the winner of the Golden Ball, to be the best crowning of the career of a great player who may not be repeated again in our Egyptian, Arab, African and even international football history.”
The ceremony is being broadcast live and free on L’Équipe’s official YouTube channel.
Dutch football legend Ruud Gullit is serving as host alongside presenter Kate Scott.
Should Salah manage to get an unlikely win, it will be Africa’s first Ballon d’Or since George Weah in 1995.
