Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike as they look to bring in a new striker this summer.

Alexander Isak is the Reds’ no.1 target and are ready to break the British record transfer bid for the second time this summer to secure Newcastle United forward.

However, the Magpies have no intention of selling the Sweden international, who is open to moving to Anfield.

The Premier League champions completed a record transfer of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £116m earlier this summer?

They would need to spend up to £125m in pursuit of Isak.

Newcastle are also determined to strengthen their attack and are interested in Liverpool target Ekitike.

Frankfurt have already rejected Newcastle’s formal £70m bid for the 23-year-old as they value him at £85m.

Eddie Howe’s side have already held talks with Ekitike’s representatives in Austria as they look to complete a move for the Frenchman for a third time after failed attempts in January and the summer of 2022.

With a move for Isak proving difficult, Liverpool are ready to battle Newcastle for Hugo Ekitike.

According to Sky Sports News, Arne Slot’s side have opened talks with Frankfurt to sign Ekitike after making contact with the Bundesliga side on Wednesday.

He scored 22 goals in 48 games across all competitions last season for Frankfurt as they secured Champions League qualification.

Ekitike joined Frankfurt permanently in a deal worth €17.5m in the summer of 2024, following a loan spell from PSG in the previous campaign.
