Eintracht Frankfurt chief Markus Krosche has sent Hugo Ekitike a classy message following the completion of his move to Liverpool.
Liverpool officially completed the signing of the French striker from Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, in a move worth around €80 million (£69 million) plus add-ons.
The deal marks one of the club’s most high-profile signings in recent years and signals Liverpool’s intent to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The 23-year-old Ekitike emerged as a top target for the Reds following a breakout season in Germany, where he impressed with his pace, technical ability, and eye for goal.
The transfer package, which could rise to €90 million with performance-related bonuses, comes after several days of intense negotiations between the two clubs.
Liverpool beat rivals Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United to the Frenchman’s signing, as he reportedly turned down offers from these Premier League clubs.
During his time in Germany, the forward scored 26 goals in 64 appearances to help Frankfurt secure Champions League qualification via their Bundesliga position in consecutive seasons.
And after completing his move to the Premier League champions on Wednesday, Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche sent a classy parting message to the striker.
Krosche was full of praise for Ekitike’s short but impactful stint at the Deutsche Bank Park.
“Hugo has improved tremendously in his 18 months with us, and he has been a real asset to our team and the club as a whole on and off the pitch,” said Krosche, reacting to the news.
“We’re delighted he can now take the next step – a step he has earned through his performances with us.”
Having already signed Florian Wirtz for over £100m, Ekitike’s signing takes Liverpool’s gross spend this summer to almost €300m.
But the Reds will not stop there, with more signings expected before the window closes.
