It appears that the Hugo Ekitike train is slowly but surely headed to Anfield this summer.
The striker’s reported move to Liverpool has been one of the major issues on the transfer mill lately.
Liverpool were among several clubs that have showed interest in the highly-rated French striker this summer.
The Reds had identified him as a potential target to fill the problematic No.
9 position next season.
Arne Slot’s side, alongside Premier League sides Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and most recently Newcastle United were in the race for the 23-year-old.
However, the Anfield club have now become the leading club in the race for Ekitike.
Liverpool have already sent in two bids for the French striker, with the most recent offer likely to fetch Eintracht Frankfurt around €90m.
This is according to Sky Sports, who report that “Liverpool have made an offer of €80 million euros (£69m) plus add-ons for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.
“The total package in this offer could rise to €90m – which is around £78m – but talks continue over the structure of the add-ons” the report added.
“The development comes after 48 hours of negotiations between the two parties after Liverpool’s interest was made public earlier this week.”
With club-to-club negotiations still continuing as both sides seek to trash out the deal, Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller has seemingly confirmed that Hugo Ekitike is likely leaving to sign for Liverpool.
Speaking after his side’s last pre-season game, the Frankfurt coach said:
“This is a bitter loss.
