Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly paused a deal for James McAtee due to Manchester City's hefty £25million price tag.
The England Under-21 captain is said to have travelled to Germany on Monday for discussions with the Bundesliga club, who are set to lose Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool.
The Mirror report that while Frankfurt are keen to strike a deal, they consider City's valuation of the 22-year-old excessive and are planning to target Freiburg's Ritsu Doan instead.
Frankfurt will continue to negotiate with McAtee's representatives, and if City were open to lowering their asking price, the deal could potentially be resurrected, it is claimed.
However, the current figures being thrown around would represent a record-breaking sum for the German club, and alternative target Doan has already proven his worth in the Bundesliga.

The German side are set to receive a major cash boost this summer with Liverpool on the verge of reaching an agreement with Frankfurt over Ekitike.
Liverpool are hopeful of reaching a compromise in the region of €90m-€95m (£78m-£82m) and believe the finer details of the latest proposal, such as the make-up of add-ons, could be completed on Sunday.
