Eintracht Frankfurt Reject £70m Bid for Hugo Ekitike as Newcastle Pursues Transfer
Eintracht Frankfurt has rejected a club-record £69-70 million bid from Newcastle United for their prolific striker Hugo Ekitike, intensifying the transfer saga around the highly sought-after French forward.
Newcastle’s offer, which would have surpassed their previous record of £63 million for Alexander Isak, was declined primarily due to disagreeable payment terms, according to reports from Sky Sports Germany. Frankfurt’s sporting director, Markus Krösche, is holding out for a higher fee, fueling a competitive bidding environment with interest reported from other top clubs in Europe, including Manchester United and Liverpool.
Ekitike joined Frankfurt on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in January 2024 before completing a permanent transfer for around €16.5 million later that year. The 23-year-old striker enjoyed a breakthrough 2024-25 season, scoring 22 Bundesliga goals and providing 15 assists across all competitions, marking himself as one of Europe’s most exciting young forwards.
Newcastle are keen to secure Ekitike to form a striking partnership alongside Alexander Isak. The Magpies have engaged in talks with Frankfurt officials, including meetings in Germany and scheduled discussions during their pre-season camp in Austria. Although initial negotiations have not yielded a formal agreement, Newcastle’s desire to land Ekitike remains firm, with their representatives actively working to finalize the deal.
Despite previous hesitations—Ekitike had twice declined Newcastle’s approaches in 2022 before joining PSG—he now appears ready for a Premier League move, which he views as an opportunity to advance his career and earn a senior call-up to the French national team.
