Hugo Ekitike is set to become the latest striker to leave Eintracht Frankfurt in a big-money move.

Liverpool have already agreed personal terms with the Frenchman and are in talks with the Bundesliga club to bring him to Anfield.

The 23-year-old, who only joined Eintracht permanently from Paris Saint-Germain in a €16.5m deal after a successful loan in April 2024, enjoyed a stunning campaign with the German outfit last time out.

Making 48 appearances, he returned 22 goals and 12 assists to help the club qualify for the Champions League as they finished an impressive third in the Bundesliga.

And that came despite selling Ekitike’s strike-partner in January.

Omar Marmoush was enjoying an even more impressive season for the club with 20 goals and 14 assists from just 26 appearances before Man City swooped in January, landing the Egyptian in a £59m deal.

Ekitke is now set to follow in his footsteps to the Premier League, with Eintracht reportedly holding out for close to £86m for the striker.

They will not stand in his way of leaving for Liverpool though, with Eintracht sporting director Markus Krosche previously admitting they will to sell their star players if they outgrow the club.

“He's one of the most interesting strikers on the European market,” he said of the striker when speaking to Sport1 in May.

I'm glad we have him.

“If he decides otherwise, that's our motto: If a player develops faster than us, we let him go."

That has certainly proven to be the case in recent years with Ekitike and Marmoush only the latest names to be sold for mass profit to top European clubs.

Willian Pacho joined Paris Saint-Germain from the club last year in a €45m deal, while the Parisians had parted with €90m to land Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht the year before.

And in the summer of 2019, strike-partners Luka Jovic and Sebastien Haller left for Real Madrid and West Ham United respectively in €60m and €50m deals.

Throw in the €75m they received for Marmoush and the €100m they hope to bank for Ekitike and that's roughly €475m pocketed for by selling some of their biggest stars over the past six years.

Still managing to win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League again during their period, Eintracht's transfer model continues to be a roaring success.

And while admittedly, their departing strikers don’t always flourish in their new surroundings, the Bundesliga have seemingly had no issues continuing to unearth their next prolific star.

Eintracht will not stand in Ekitike’s way as talks with Liverpool continue, and will already be plotting to spend such an outlay on his successor.

With the Frenchman poised to potentially become the Bundesliga outfit’s record sale yet, the Reds can only hope he proves to be worth every penny.
