Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez could reject a move to Manchester United despite renewed interest from the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim is unsure whether Man United will sign a new goalkeeper after Altay Bayindir’s error against Arsenal on Sunday, 17 August.

Bayindir failed to clear his lines from a corner, instead gifting Riccardo Calafiori the opportunity to head home for the Gunners and earn a 1-0 win for the North Londoners.

Last season’s first-choice goalkeeper, Andre Onana, was absent against Arsenal, while former Red Devils chief scout Mick Brown has exclusively told Football Insider that Man United are looking at re-signing David De Gea.

Aston Villa successfully qualified for the Europa League last season, whereas Man United endured a poor Premier League campaign, finishing just 15th.

Therefore, the West Midlands club can offer Martinez a European campaign which he would not be able to enjoy in the North West.

Playing ‘transfer Tinder’ live on talkSPORT [19 August], Jeff Stelling said: “I’m thinking he’s got European football at Villa, what’s the temptation to go to Manchester United?

“I know they’re a massive club.

But for me, I don’t think Villa can possibly let Emi Martinez go, so I’m a swipe left (no).”

Unai Emery is enduring a quiet transfer window despite selling Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United, which will bolster their PSR status.

Meanwhile, Ollie Watkins has been eyed by Newcastle amid Liverpool’s interest in Alexander Isak.

Losing Watkins would come as a major blow for Emery, with Villa vying to enjoy a successful Europa League campaign as well as continuing to perform well in the Premier League.

Martinez’s potential departure would be equally damaging for the West Midlands outfit, who should not be willing to sanction his exit despite Man United’s advances.

Emery has won four Europa League titles in his career and is capable of steering Villa to that success this season.

However, losing Martinez would heavily decrease the Spaniard’s chances of winning silverware this term, as the Argentine remains a reliable asset across all competitions.

Meanwhile, former club scout Bryan King weighed in on Fenerbahce’s interest in Youri Tielemans in a Villa News exclusive.
