Tottenham captain Cristian Romero dispatched a heartfelt message to supporters following a positive result with Argentina.

The centre-back has had a good start to the season with Tottenham, with two wins from three, including Tottenham’s standout victory over Man City.

It’s also been a memorable season already for the defender as Romero was named Tottenham captain for the 2025/26 season –  a sign of his importance to new coach Thomas Frank’s plans for the future.

Romero also signed a new Tottenham deal earlier last month, putting an end to any rumours of a potential exit, and showcasing his focus for the side.

Now, his focus has shifted to international football, as the defender shared his emotions after Argentina’s latest win.

Romero is now on international duty as club football takes its first break of the campaign, and he featured in Argentina’s 3-0 win over Venezuela in the World Cup qualifiers.

He posted on Instagram after the match with a passionate message to say: “I hope they are eternal.

How beautiful to share these moments with you” alongside the Argentine flag.

He saw plenty of reactions from his fellow national teammates with Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister and Man United’s Lisandro Martinez liking the post.

Emiliano Martinez, who will stay at Aston Villa despite pushing for an exit in the summer, seemed to be in positive spirits with a comment to say: “Clean sheet”.

Lionel Messi continues to steal the headlines for Argentina as he scored a brace with Lautaro Martinez netting the third in a convincing display.

Romero also impressed, helping restrict Venezuela to no shots on target, while making three interceptions and two clearances in a strong defensive display.

When Romero returns to North London next week, he will return to a change to the hierarchy as Daniel Levy has stepped down as Tottenham chairman after 25 years in charge, bringing an end to a long era of leadership.

Tottenham have created a new role to replace Levy in his absence, as Peter Charrington will step into the newly-created non-executive chairman role.

After a summer window that saw some results, including Romero’s new deal, but also embarrassment, Tottenham now move into a new chapter without Levy at the helm.
