Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn dispatched a message to supporters following their recent pre-season fixture amid speculation surrounding his future.

As reported by Football Insider, Villa may be forced to sell key first-team players to stay in line with UEFA’s financial regulations, with McGinn among those linked with a potential exit.

Despite the ongoing uncertainty, Aston Villa turned down an enquiry from Everton for McGinn last month, with the Toffees in search of an experienced addition to their squad.

While his future remains up in the air, the Villa captain shared a message of appreciation with supporters after the team’s latest pre-season outing, reaffirming his continued involvement for now.

Aston Villa’s pre-season hadn’t started in the strongest fashion, with two defeats and a draw against Frankfurt, but Emery’s side bounced back with a 2-1 victory over St Louis on 31 July.

Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins were on the scoresheet as Villa secured their first win of the summer, and captain McGinn showed his appreciation for the support in the US with a message on Instagram.

He captioned his post: “Good to be back out there in St Louis.

See you in Nashville Saturday” alongside a selection of photos from the match.

His post was met with responses from across the squad, with Emiliano Martinez—who continues to be linked with a move away—liking the post, along with Watkins and Youri Tielemans.

While McGinn has faced some scrutiny over his form last term, the Scotland international remains central to Emery’s plans, having made 49 appearances in all competitions.

Martinez remains part of Villa’s pre-season tour, but his future at the club remains uncertain amid ongoing transfer interest.

Football Insider revealed that Paris Saint-Germain are preparing a move for Martinez, as Manchester United consider a bid for Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Martinez has already turned down a lucrative switch to Saudi Arabia, preferring to continue playing at the highest level in Europe, and with previous interest from United now fading, a move to the reigning European champions could now be a serious option.
