Former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can was in an emotional mood after qualifying for the Champions League final on Tuesday night.

Dortmund went into the second leg holding a slight 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Niclas Füllkrug at the Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund were able to hold their nerve and won the return leg at the Parc des Prince courtesy of a headed Mats Hummels goal to seal the deal for the German representatives.

When the gauntlet was drawn, many thought Borussia Dortmund was the weakest team out of Atletico Madrid, PSG, and Barcelona.

However, the Bundesliga outfit has proved many people wrong, with an impressive run of beating Atletico Madrid and PSG in the knockouts.

They also topped Group F, dubbed the ‘group of death’, with AC Milan, Newcastle United, and ironically PSG all drawn in together.

Captaining Dortmund, Can played the entire match in their victory against PSG in Paris.

The German international played for Liverpool from 2014 to 2018, having joined from Bayer Leverkusen.

After his stint with Liverpool (and one bicycle kick later), he moved to Juventus on a free transfer, with his last appearance for Liverpool coming off the bench in the 2018 Champions League final.

And after qualifying for the final at Wembley this year, Emre Can made a Liverpool admission.

What did Emre Can about Liverpool?

Speaking after their victory against Paris to CBS Sports, the 30-year-old revealed that this Champions League run feels different to 2018 with Liverpool because he is one of the main cogs in the team.

Near the end of his Liverpool career, Can was on the fringe of the team, and the Champions League final made with Bayern in 2012/13 – he was youngster:

“It’s very different, I would say, because when I was with Bayern in the final I didn’t play, I was a young guy,” Can explained to CBS Sports.

“I was in the squad but I didn’t play.

With Liverpool I was a long time injured, I didn’t play the quarter-final or semi-final.

“Now I am playing all the games and when you play it’s different and it feels different.

If I talk too much I get emotional.”

There is certainly lots of feel-good stories in this Borussia Dortmund side, with Marco Reus also recently announcing that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season.

For such a loyal player, it would make perfect sense for him to win the Champions League in his last ever game for the club.
