Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez was seen to be getting visibly angry at Chelsea’s backroom staff and supporters before and during half-time in their 2-0 win over Fulham.
The Blues’ clash against Fulham was not without controversy throughout with numerous contentious decisions by referee Rob Jones and VAR.
Fernandez’s side were the benefactors, however, as Josh King’s first-half strike was ruled out for a foul by Rodrigo Muniz on Trevoh Chalobah in the build-up, and then Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the second period for a handball by Ryan Sessegnon that seemed to be preceded by a foul from Moises Caicedo.
The Argentine midfielder stepped up to dispatch the spot-kick to give double his team’s lead in the 56th minute, after he had assisted Joao Pedro‘s headed opener in added time just before the interval.
Things seemed to be going their way at half-time before they Chelsea went on to take the three points home against Fulham, yet Fernandez looked to be annoyed as he came off for the break as he remonstrated with staff and home fans.

Fernandez is hot-headed by nature, as shown by his 14 yellow cards picked up in all competitions last season, and that was on show at half-time at Stamford Bridge despite Chelsea being in the ascendancy.
Daily Mail reporter Kieran Gill shared a video of the Blues captain to his X page (30 August, 1:35pm), in which Fernandez could be seen running off the pitch towards a member of staff with his armband in hand.

Gill also revealed that the 24-year-old had been angry with supporters after Pedro’s goal went in, as his caption read: “Enzo Fernandez’s reaction at the half-time whistle was to run to (CFC) fitness coach Marcos Alvarez as he appeared to offer him his captain’s armband
“Fernandez wasn’t happy after Chelsea’s goal, yelling at fans & bench.
Andrey Santos had been sent to warm-up before half-time.”
Football Insider verdict
Fernandez has been a key man for the Blues ever since his high-profile arrival from Benfica for a £106million British-record fee [Sky Sports] in January 2023.
He helped them to Conference League and Club World Cup glory last season, and was named in the Team of the Tournament for each competition, so it is clear how influential he is on Enzo Maresca’s side right now.

The 24-year-old is the Blues’ vice-captain, donning the armband when Reece James is not playing, and he looked to be annoyed with those who may have been questioning him during his side’s win against Fulham.
Whether the fall-out will lead to further repercussions or sanctions for Fernandez remains unclear, but it looked to simply be a heat-of-the-moment row that will likely be forgotten about now that the game is over.
Chelsea will need him to be firing on all cylinders this season if they want to mount a title challenge, and he has started the campaign brilliantly with one goal and two assists in three games so far.
