Enzo Maresca will ultimately be pleased with Chelsea despite two controversial goals in a win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge.
Joshua King, 18, saw his goal unfairly ruled out for Fulham in the opening 25 minutes, with Rodrigo Muniz being punished for a “careless” challenge on Tosin Adarabioyo on Saturday, 30 August.
Despite multiple chances for the Cottagers, it was Joao Pedro who opened the scoring nine minutes into added time, of which only eight were given, another moment which left Marco Silva fuming.
Then, 11 minutes into the second half, Enzo Fernandez scored the Blues’ second from the penalty spot, with Ryan Sessegnon being punished for handball in the box after a lengthy VAR review.
Robert Sanchez – 6
Very little for the shot-stopper to do at Stamford Bridge.
He will gladly take the clean sheet, but that was more due to his team’s dominance.
Malo Gusto – 7
Remained defensively solid throughout the game, made all the more impressive knowing that he was up against Alex Iwobi on his flank.

Trevoh Chalobah – 8
Bought fouls, was a threat in the final third, remained accurate with his passes, and was Chelsea’s best defender on the pitch.

Tosin Adarabioyo – 7
While the former Fulham man was good in the air, he made too many fouls to earn a higher rating.
Marc Cucurella – 4
Run ragged by the Fulham attack, making far too many errors when challenging for the ball, and was fortunate to finish the game without a yellow card.
Moises Caicedo – 6
Despite his first-half yellow card, Caicedo’s interceptions in the middle of the park were key to victory, with few other midfielders able to do what he does for the Blues.
Enzo Fernandez – 9 – Man of the Match
Such an important member of Maresca’s squad, this time notching a goal and an assist at Stamford Bridge.
Never looked like missing his penalty.
Estevao (Off for Gittens 67?) – 5
Popped up at different moments during the game, but overall, the young Brazilian was slightly ineffective against Fulham’s defence.
Joao Pedro – 8
Rose highest in the box to head Chelsea ahead against the Cottagers, causing chaos for much of the 90 minutes yet again.
Pedro Neto (Off for James 81?) – 2
Extremely quiet.
He was a main man for Chelsea during the Club World Cup, but against the Cottagers, he was nowhere to be seen, sadly.

Liam Delap (Off for George 14?) – N/A
Sadly for the striker, he pulled up with a hamstring injury and was quickly subbed off.
Substitutes
Tyrique George (On for Delap 14?, Off for Santos 81?) – 5
Was reasonably exciting in the final third, being smartly denied by Bernd Leno.
Jamie Gittens (On for Estavao 67?) – 3
Offered very little after coming off the bench.
Andrey Santos (On for George 81?) – 6
Got stuck straight into the action, joining Caicedo in controlling the midfield.
Reece James (On for Neto 81?) – 6
Offered some stability on the pitch, helping to see out all three points.
