Liverpool has certainly found that to be true, as its hopes of a treble have faltered alarmingly in the space of just three tightly-packed fixtures.
It was only the Sunday before last that the Reds were travelling to Old Trafford full of hope, knowing that a win would keep them in the driving seat for the Premier League title.
If things flipped so quickly for Liverpool in just a week, what's to stop things flipping back just as fast?
First up is the Europa League second leg.
Liverpool needs a catalyst to reverse the effects of that Manchester United game, and this could well be it.
What comes next is a title race gift: two games before Manchester City is next in action.
It's a golden opportunity for Liverpool to pile on the pressure; by next Wednesday night, if it manages to beat Fulham and then Everton, it can be certain of a four point advantage over Pep Guardiola's men, having played two games more.
Of course, that would still leave things in Manchester City's hands.
But even Guardiola's run-in masters are not robots; a sudden return to form for Liverpool, sealed with an away-day derby victory, would not go unnoticed at the Etihad.
It has to be said that Arsenal has the same advantage over both Liverpool and Manchester City; it has its own date with destiny in Europe tomorrow, before playing its next Premier League games on Saturday and then Tuesday, one day earlier than Klopp's side.
But any slip-ups against Wolves or Chelsea could open the door.
Any dropped points in those games would mean Liverpool could end the next seven days not only four ahead of Manchester City, but also top of the Premier League pile, with Guardiola facing a tough challenge away at Brighton fully aware that defeat would put things back in Klopp's hands.
