Liverpool have had their eyes on several targets this summer.
The Reds are currently overseeing a record-breaking transfer window, as seven new additions have been finalised so far.
However, that spending splurge is set to be continued, as Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi remain very much on Liverpool’s radar.
A name that was tentatively linked to Liverpool was talented young Belgian winger Malick Fofana, who currently plays for Ligue 1 club Lyon and the Belgium national team.
The Belgian international scored 11 goals and notched five assists for Lyon last season.
Le’Equipe reported at the start of July that the Reds had opened talks with the 20-year-old’s representatives.
Lyon have been looking to raise funds by any means necessary this summer, amid their ongoing legal battle to keep their status in Ligue 1.
Towards the end of June, the club were administratively relegated to Ligue 2 due to the poor state of the club’s finances but they are currently appealing the decision.
Many clubs across Europe have been keeping tabs on Fofana’s situation, but it appears to be Liverpool’s noisy neighbours who have taken the biggest step towards acquiring his services.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Everton are in advanced talks to sign Malick Fofana from Olympique Lyon.
An official bid has been submitted and the two clubs are now in direct talks, with Everton also in contact with the player’s camp.
Everton are also in discussions on personal terms with Fofana with talks underway.
The blue side of Merseyside will be looking to get off to a good start next season as they welcome their new stadium to the Premier League.
Signing Malick Fofana will be a real sign of intent shown from Everton, and it remains to be seen whether they can get this deal over the line but this is a positive first step.
