Everton fans are basking in the glory of Wednesday night’s Merseyside derby victory with a new song aimed at rivals Liverpool.

The Toffees took a giant step towards Premier League safety with a 2-0 victory over Jurgen Klopp’s side – their first derby win since 2010.

Goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin were enough to see off the Reds on a memorable night at Goodison Park.

The result has put a huge dent in Liverpool’s title ambitions, who now find themselves three points off leaders Arsenal with just four games remaining.

Manchester City are one point behind Klopp’s side but have two games in hand which could eventually see them leapfrog both Liverpool and Arsenal in the title race.

The Reds' title hopes might not be over just yet, but some Everton fans are convinced Wednesday’s defeat was a fatal one - so much so, that a new song was created to poke fun at their city neighbours.

Everton fan Conor was at Goodison Park for the clash and shared his thoughts on the new chant before providing a rendition which has since gone viral.

“When the second goal went in we could relax a little bit,” he told The Sports Bar on Wednesday night.

“We started singing ‘You lost the league at Goodison Park’ a little bit too early for my liking at 85 minutes [on the clock]."

When asked to sing the song live on air, Conor duly obliged and it’s fair to say it caught on quickly with Sports Bar hosts Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara, who couldn’t resist joining in.

It was all good-natured fun for Conor and many other Toffees’ fans who have had little to cheer about this season.

But back-to-back home victories in four days have handed Everton a lifeline and an eight-point cushion between them and 18th-place Luton Town.

Everton will be hoping to make it a hat-trick of home wins on Saturday when Brentford travel to Goodison before key clashes against fellow strugglers Luton and Sheffield United.
