On Friday, after the players returned to Finch Farm for the start of pre-season, first team forwards Beto and Youssef Chermiti joined club ambassador Ian Snodin to lay wreaths at the home of Liverpool FC.

It had been agreed the two Portugal-born players were the most fitting representatives from the squad to pay tribute to the Portuguese international, who followed up Liverpool’s Premier League win by helping his country to UEFA Nations League success this summer.

Liverpool expressed gratitude for the support, sharing images of the visit online and writing: “A touching and much appreciated show of support from Everton, as they pay their respects to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva at Anfield this afternoon.”
