Everton must seriously step up their pursuit of Tyler Dibling or face losing out on the teenager this summer.

Dibling is attracting attention this summer after registering four goals and three assists in 38 appearances for Southampton last season, despite the South Coast side enduring one of the worst seasons in English top-flight history.

Everton are currently negotiating with Southampton over 19-year-old Dibling, who is an England youth national team regular.

While there is no agreement yet, it’s understood that the Toffees aren’t ready to walk away from the table just yet, but they may have to step up their efforts or be pushed out.

Despite Everton’s interest — alongside Liverpool and Newcastle being admirers — Dibling has been tipped by Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier to join Aston Villa this summer, as the Midlands club eye up replacements for Morgan Rogers amid Chelsea interest.

“Do you know what, I think Villa might be a decent club for him,” Le Tissier exclusively told Football Insider.

“I think he could go there and not be under immense pressure straight away to go in the team and start making a difference.

“They’ve got a good settled team there, I think they’ll be challenging for the European places.

“It would be a nice club to go and settle in gradually at, and I think that the important bit for him at the moment is for him not to go to a club where the expectations for him are going to be too high, too soon.”

When asked whether Dibling could be an immediate replacement for Morgan Rogers, who is linked with a move away from Villa Park, Le Tissier said: “Yeah, I’d say so.

Slightly different players, but kind of similar areas of the pitch they operate in.

“Yeah, he could definitely be one that could slot into that place.”

Everton are in desperate need of a boost on the wings, with Iliman Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil their only senior options right now — and the latter performed well as a No.10 at times last season.

The Toffees are heavily linked with Jack Grealish and appear to be pushing for a loan deal, with David Moyes a big admirer of the 39-time England international.

But even if they get that statement signing over the line, Everton need more — both now and following the expiry of Grealish’s loan.

Dibling is incredibly unproven, scoring just two goals in 33 Premier League outings last season.

However, in a struggling Southampton side, he really stood out, sitting second among his teammates for dribbles (45) and fourth for chances created (20) in the Premier League last season, while he also clocked a top sprint speed of 33.4 km/h — only Kamaldeen Sulemana (34 km/h) and Cameron Archer (35.2 km/h) were quicker (FotMob).

Moyes has always boasted a strong record with young players, while Dibling certainly has the stylistic similarities to Ndiaye and Grealish that the Everton boss is a fan of.

His deal looks to be an expensive one, meaning there is plenty of risk, but Moyes can offer the conditions for Dibling to succeed, while the club are in desperate need of his qualities.
