Everton have been given a huge boost in their pursuit of Tyler Dibling after a new update on his training situation at Southampton.

Dibling’s emergence was a highlight in an otherwise dismal 2024/25 season for Southampton, and his breakout into their first-team has seen him heavily linked with a move away this summer.

The 19-year-old winger broke through to register four goals and three assists in 38 games in his first full season as a Saints regular, and Football Insider revealed before the January window that Southampton were considering offers between £20-30million for Dibling amid interest from Newcastle United.

He continued to shine in the second-half of the campaign, despite their overall woes, and Everton saw a £27million bid for his services rejected recently [BBC], with the Saints demanding even more amid interest from numerous clubs.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (2 August) that the Toffees could sign Dibling for around £50m after they had another bid of around £35m rejected last week [The Guardian], and they have now been handed further encouragement to sign him after a new report.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (4 August) that both Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are also interested in Dibling this summer, but Everton are still the only club to have sent an offer for his services, and therefore look to be at the front of the race to sign the 19-year-old right now.

With his future uncertain, Daily Echo reporter George Rees-Julian has revealed, via X, that Dibling is training away from Southampton’s first-team squad, as he is “working on his fitness” and is doing “no contact” training whilst negotiations are ongoing for his St Mary’s exit.

He states that Dibling has not been “banished” to the Saints’ under-21 squad, but his absence is sure to raise questions around what comes next for him and the club.

When a player trains away from their teammates, it usually only means one thing, even if Southampton’s official line is that Dibling is continuing his recovery from injury.

There is no smoke without fire in these situations, and the fact that the Saints don’t want their prized asset to aggravate his existing issue by training alongside his teammates points to a situation in which they are expecting to have to let him leave the club soon.

Southampton will obviously not want to lose Dibling, but his departure has felt like a foregone conclusion all summer, and this is just another step towards that eventual reality.

Everton will be excited by the prospect of him potentially forcing a move to Merseyside over the next month, but they still need to stump up a bigger fee to get the move sorted, and Dibling training away from his teammates could give the Toffees more leverage to bring Southampton’s valuation even further down.

The Saints will not want a player on their books who does not want to play for them, and while that is not yet publicly the case, it would come as a real shock if the 19-year-old did not see a move to David Moyes‘ side as a pretty obvious and realistic step up for his career right now.

It remains to be seen if a deal will get done over the coming days and weeks, but Everton will surely feel in an even stronger position to make it happen now compared to before, following this new development.
