Everton have been warned to sign three Premier League players or they risk facing a relegation battle next season.

From the elation of the new stadium reveal to a barren transfer window, Everton fans will have mixed feelings ahead of the new season.

David Moyes returned to the Toffees for a second time as former manager Sean Dyche left the club adrift near the bottom of the league.

The Scotsman headed a major turn around in the second half of the season which saw the Merseyside club climb to 13th in the table.

With the addition of a sparkling stadium, expectations were meant to be high for the new campaign.

Yet, with only four new signings including Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich, the club are looking likely to struggle next year.

Speaking on talkSPORT (31 July), former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor discussed players the Toffees ought to target.

Not going to play much, very good player I really like him.”

Despite making four signings this window, the ex-Villain added: “They need more [players].”

Asked whether Agbonlahor was worried about the new season for Everton, he replied: “I think they [Everton fans] will be thinking: goals.

“Only the bottom three scored less than Everton last season.

Brighton scored 66 Premier League goals, Everton 42.

And no one in the Everton side got double figures for Premier League goals, that’s a bit of a worry for me.”

At an estimated cost of £750million (BBC Sport), it is clear that the new stadium has left Moyes with limited funds for recruitment.

Similar to what happened at Tottenham when they built their new ground, there were a couple of seasons of cautious spending as they turned over more revenue from the larger fan capacity.

However, the blue half of Merseyside’s squad is looking very thin across all positions, especially in defence.

At right-back, injury-prone Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson can only be covered by Jake O’Brien.

If James Tarkowski or Jarrad Brainthwaite were to sit on the sidelines, Michael Keane would be the only veteran centre-back available for Moyes.

Any injuries to the Toffees backline, the staple backbone of the side, would be catastrophic for their domestic form.

Everton fans will be praying for a miracle that none of their key players pick up any niggles throughout the season, especially during the congested Christmas period.
