Liverpool are set to take on Everton in their next Premier League game on Wednesday.

The Reds will be vying for their 100th Merseyside derby win and, as we edge ever-closer to the final few games of the season, every point counts.

Unfortunately for Jurgen Klopp’s men, Arsenal triumphed over Chelsea 5-0 during their tie on Tuesday and are evidently doing everything in their power to not drop any further points.

Each of Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal are all still in with a chance of coming away with the top flight title come the end of the campaign.

However, it feels as if the Anfield club are on the backfoot as, although they have a game in hand over Mikel Arteta’s side, Man City have two and could easily overtake their fellow title rivals.

Hence, why, Wednesday’s game against Everton is a highly important affair.

Merseyside Derby match facts

The Toffees find themselves winless in their last 12 top flight home games against Liverpool, this is the longest run without a win against an opponent in the clubs’ history.

Whilst the Reds have only lost one Premier League game in the last 26 against their rivals and have triumphed in the last five ties.

The Merseyside Derby has seen more red cards than any other fixture in top flight history (23) with Everton being the cause of 16.

Since the start of the 2022/23 season, Sean Dyche’s men have only won one of their midweek Premier League games, a record which no team would like to be the owners of.

As the footballing world well knows, this will be Klopp’s final Merseyside Derby due to him leaving the club at the end of the term.

Of the 16  times the teams have met in the Premier League under his tenure, Klopp has reigned triumphant nine times and could be the first Liverpool manager to win 10.

Everton team news

Despite winning their last game against Nottingham Forest, the win was somehwat overshadowed by the injury that Beto sustained.

The Portugal international was stretchered off the pitch after banging his head and recieved oxygen.

He is guaranteed to miss the derby, however, Dyche has said that the initial signs from the striker are positive.

Lewis Dobbin, Nathan Patterson and Dele Alli will all also miss the clash due to their respective injuries.

In fact, Patterson’s is so severe that he could even miss the chance to represent Scotland at the Euros this summer.

Club captain, Seamus Coleman will also miss the game.

However, both Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin returned against Forest and were both fit to start the game.

The former did pick up a knock, however, he is still likely to play a part in the derby.

Liverpool team news

As has been the case for the majority of the season, Liverpool will be without a handful of their first-team players.

Joel Matip, Ben Doak, Thiago Alcantara and Conor Bradley will all be absent from the fixture with  return date not yet set in stone for any of the players.

Despite coming on against Fulham over the weekend, Diogo Jota will also be out for “up to two weeks” after the attacker “felt something” after he scored.

Youngster Stefan Bajcetic has also made his return to football and has been pictured playing for the Under-21’s.

However, the Spain international was left out of the squad against the Cottagers, but there have been no announcements as to when the youngster is likely to return to first-team action.

The potential starting 11’s for both teams

Everton possible starting lineup:
Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Harrison, Onana, Gueye, McNeil; Doucoure; Calvert-Lewin.

Liverpool possible starting lineup:
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Endo, Mac Allister; Salah, Nunez, Diaz.
