Everton will not be resting on their laurels following the signing of Tyler Dibling from Southampton.

The Toffees have been very busy this summer, with talented winger Dibling joining Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry among their major arrivals.

But Everton aren’t done yet, with numerous other key positions still in need of some TLC if their 2-0 Hill Dickinson Stadium debut win over Brighton is to be built upon.

However, one position stands above all others as a priority for David Moyes in the final days of the transfer window.

According to Sky Sports (25 August), right-back Nathan Patterson is nearing a move to Spanish giants Sevilla, but even if he were to stay at Everton, the Scotland international has struggled to hold his place down on Merseyside — starting just 26 of his 49 Premier League appearances since the start of 2022/23.

Everton also waved goodbye to veteran defender Ashley Young this summer following the end of his contract.

That leaves the Toffees with 36-year-old Seamus Coleman as their only natural senior right-back, while fellow Irishman Jake O’Brien has been the most regular starter there since Moyes‘ return despite being a natural centre-back.

Everton have already failed in bids to sign Kyle Walker-Peters and James Justin this summer, so right-back is clearly an existing priority.

But with more attacking reinforcements secured, Moyes will now want to see this position given extra focus — with Patterson’s possible departure leaving his side extremely vulnerable if O’Brien picks up an injury or Coleman continues to endure late-career fitness issues.

Football Insider verdict

Attacking midfield is another position supposedly under consideration for Everton, but after landing Dibling, they may reconsider.

The Toffees have paid a whopping £40million to acquire the 19-year-old, but the depth he brings on the wings could allow Moyes to utilise other players through the middle.

Grealish stands out as an option to play the No.10 role, but given his effectiveness on the left on Sunday, it’s hard to see Moyes changing things up.

However, Everton do have Carlos Alcaraz at their disposal, while Dewsbury-Hall excelled in an attacking role at the weekend, and Dwight McNeil boasted a record of three goals and three assists in 10 appearances as a No.10 last season (Transfermarkt).

With that in mind, another striker could be on the cards.

Thierno Barry and Beto are yet to get off the mark this season, while the latter has been heavily linked with Leeds United this summer.

Should Beto depart, that would leave Youssef Chermiti as Moyes’ only alternative option to Barry, who will still require an adjustment period to English football.

Signing Dibling is a major step forward, but there’s plenty of work still to do for Everton if they’re to challenge in the top half of the table for the first time in five years.
