John Barnes has found himself in a financial quagmire as liquidators revealed his media company is in the red, with debts totalling £1.5 million.
Barnes' company, John Barnes Media Limited, capsized into liquidation in 2023 under the weight of unpaid taxes.

At 61, Barnes was slapped with a directorship disqualification lasting three-and-a-half years following his company's failure to clear a hefty tax tab of £190,000 covering VAT and corporation tax.
An Insolvency Service probe that kicked off in September 2023 unearthed company tax delinquencies of £78,839 in corporation tax over a span of August 2018 to January 2020.
Furthermore, VAT payments to the tune of £115,272 remained unsettled from February 2019 to 2020, during which time the company had a turnover of £441,798, according to filed returns which acknowledged its VAT obligations.
His ban started on Wednesday 24 April."
Barnes, who was capped 79 times for England and also enjoyed stints with Watford and Newcastle United, formed the company back in September 2012 and was its sole director.
Speaking about finances in 2009, he said in an interview: "I don't like dealing with taxes, of course.
"I just hate not having enough money.
Apart from that, I don't like dealing with bills and never have done.
