Jordan Henderson could leave Ajax this summer(Image: 2025 Icon Sport)
Jordan Henderson could make a stunning return to hometown club Sunderland this summer.
The former Liverpool captain joined the Reds from Sunderland in 2011 and his boyhood club are interested in bringing him back to the Stadium of Light after securing promotion to the Premier League.
Henderson, 34, currently plays for Ajax but is drawing interest from multiple clubs.
The England international, who was present for the Black Cats' play-off victory at Wembley, is also wanted by Rangers and two Serie A clubs.
The midfielder remains close to Steven Gerrard, who wants to make Henderson his top target if he is reappointed at Ibrox.
But both sporting director Kristjaan Speakman and head coach Regis Le Bris see Henderson as an ideal perfect role model to add experience to a squad returning to the Premier League for the first time since being relegated in 2017.
Henderson still has 12 months left on his Ajax contract but he looks set to leave the Eredivisie side after the departure of Italian head coach Francesco Farioli.
The Dutch giants blew a commanding nine-point lead at the top of the table to finish runners-up to PSV Eindhoven.
