It’s set to be a summer of change for many former Liverpool players this summer.

West Ham United have announced that ex-Red Danny Ings will leave the club when his contract expires this summer.

The 32-year-old striker scored just five goals in 69 appearances during his time with the Hammers.

Meanwhile Aston Villa are reportedly set to terminate Philippe Coutinho’s contract ahead of schedule.

Although the Brazilian midfielder’s deal runs until 2026, he has not featured for Villa since August 2023 and has spent the last two seasons out on loan at Al-Duhail in Qatar and his boyhood club Vasco da Gama.

Vasco da Gama’s president, Pedrinho, has openly stated his strong wish to keep Coutinho beyond the end of his loan on June 30, but financial limitations mean a permanent transfer would require Villa’s cooperation.

And now Pepe Reina, who made 394 appearances Liverpool Football Club, has announced his retirement at age 42.

The former Reds stalwart will play his final professional match for Como against Inter Milan on Friday, closing a 25-year career.

Signed from Villarreal in 2005 for €9.8 million, Reina quickly became the bedrock of Rafa Benítez’s side and enjoying a nine-year spell at Anfield from 2005-2014.

He claimed the Premier League’s clean sheet award for three consecutive seasons (2005-2008), a feat unmatched in the competition’s history until Ederson’s recent achievements.

After leaving Merseyside in 2014, Reina embraced nomadic twilight years, winning trophies at Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) and Napoli (Coppa Italia) and ending up at Como.

“A very beautiful career is coming to an end, a very full life?

I feel very fortunate for what I’ve experienced,” the Spaniard said to Movistar.

“I didn’t expect it, but I think the time has come and I feel like bringing it to a close here.”

The 42-year-old, who has expressed his intention to pursue a coaching career, earned 36 caps for Spain and was a member of the squads that won the 2010 World Cup and the European Championships in both 2008 and 2012.

It has been reported that Reina is lining up a role at Villarreal, where he’ll coach their U19 squad.
