Three ex-Liverpool stars have joined a unique pre-season camp for free agents as they look to stay fit and secure new clubs before the 2025/26 season.

The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) launched the residential programme to give out-of-contract players the platform to train and impress potential suitors.

The camp, now in its second year, hosts over 40 free agents across a 10-week schedule, providing top-level fitness work and coaching.

Fully funded by the PFA, the initiative helped more than 100 players earn contracts last summer and it could prove vital once again.

Among those making use of the camp are former Reds forward Fabio Borini and academy graduates Jake Cain and Max Woltman.

Borini, 34, left Liverpool in 2015 and went on to spells with Sunderland, AC Milan, Hellas Verona and Sampdoria.

After failing to earn a renewal in Italy, he now turns to the PFA camp to stay sharp while searching for his next destination.

Cain and Woltman, both academy products, are also taking part.

Out of action since January 2024, he sees the camp as a lifeline to get back on track.

“Max Woltman has been through an incredibly difficult period with the club due to injury,” Oxford stated when confirming his release, highlighting his resilience despite setbacks.

Currently in week eight of the 10-week schedule, the ex-Liverpool stars pre-season camp could be a crucial step in their comeback stories.
