Nottingham Forest's Taiwo Awoniyi is currently in an induced coma under hospital care after undergoing emergency surgery.
The forward sustained a severe abdominal injury during the latter stages of Forest's 2-2 draw with Leicester City.
Forest earlier confirmed on Tuesday that the striker – who was with Liverpool between 2015-2021 after starting his senior career at Anfield, although he never made an appearance for the Reds – was "recovering well so far following urgent surgery on a serious abdominal injury." The Daily Mail has reported that the injury could have been life-threatening if not for the "complex" medical procedure he received.
In response to circulating reports and to provide an update on Awoniyi's condition, Forest issued a statement on Tuesday, which also addressed the reports about Marinakis and Nuno.
The club's statement said: "Nottingham Forest can confirm that Taiwo Awoniyi is recovering well so far following urgent surgery on a serious abdominal injury sustained during Sunday's match against Leicester City.
"The seriousness of his injury is a powerful reminder of the physical risks in the game, and why a player's health and well-being must always come first.
At Nottingham Forest, this principle is not just policy for us; it is the deeply held belief and conviction of our owner.
