Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has hailed Liverpool boss Arne Slot as the manager who now sets the standard for all coaches to follow.

Van Persie, the 42-year-old who fired United to their last Premier League title in 2013 following his shock £30million arrival from Arsenal, is now in charge of boyhood club Feyenoord.

He took over the team left behind by Slot at the Rotterdam club earlier this year after initially working in the academy.

Van Persie, was hugely impressed by the way Slot’s champions won at Newcastle on Monday night despite being outplayed by the 10-man Toon.

He said: “The way Liverpool play the game is the ultimate form of football.

In the Premier League, the level of the players is so high.

“Slot has great players at Liverpool.

There were stages in the game against Newcastle when they were breathtaking.
