Liverpool are attempting to bolster their forward line this summer as they look to retain the Premier League title.
The Reds were free-scoring throughout much of the season, but having become a little reliant on Mohamed Salah, are looking to diversify.
Florian Wirtz is likely to arrive to add extra creativity, while it has emerged that Hugo Ekitike is a concrete target for Liverpool as well.
In the meantime, Salah is set to stay at Anfield for at least the next two seasons.
But the Egyptian will not go on forever, and Liverpool must also plan for the future on the right wing.
As a result, the Reds are likely to be scouring the world for players who can develop into potential successors to Salah.
On that search, Gent winger Momodou Sonko has reportedly come onto Liverpool’s radar.
And according to the player himself, he has never left it since a trial in 2017.

Sonko was linked with Liverpool in 2023 while still in Sweden with BK Hacken.
However, the 20-year-old ultimately moved to Gent in January 2024.
Despite the interest from Anfield never fully materialising, though, Sonko has told Swedish outlet Expressen that he did in fact have a trial with the Reds back in 2017.

“The way I look at it is that they were already interested there and I went there and tried it out a bit,” he said.
“I felt I was a little too young to move but they have continued to keep an eye on me.
The development in Sweden has been good before I moved so it feels quite natural.”

Asked how close he came to joining Liverpool in the more recent years, Sonko suggested there was nothing especially concrete.
“I don’t actually know,” says the youngster.
I don’t really have a good idea.”
Although Sonko was billed as an ‘exceptional’ youngster during his days with Hacken, he has not especially delivered at Gent.
Having scored four goals and laid on three assists in 40 appearances for the Belgian side, more may have been expected from Sonko.
Nevertheless, that may not deter Liverpool, and according to the Sweden U21 international, he has certainly been impressed by what he’s seen from the Reds under Arne Slot.
“Yes, absolutely incredible,” he says.
