Liverpool have agreed a British-record deal to sign striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for £125 million, marking one of the summer's most significant transfer moves. The 25-year-old Sweden international is set to sign a six-year contract after undergoing a medical on the final day of the transfer window.

This transfer fee surpasses the previous British record of £115 million, which Chelsea paid Brighton for Moisés Caicedo in 2023, and also breaks Liverpool’s own transfer record for a second time this summer after their earlier £100 million signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. Isak's transfer ends a drawn-out saga during which the player did not join Newcastle's preseason tour and expressed dissatisfaction, even accusing the club’s hierarchy of broken promises.

Newcastle initially valued Isak at £150 million and rejected Liverpool’s early offers, but the situation softened as Isak missed the start of the season and publicly stated "the relationship can’t continue," prompting the club to accept Liverpool’s bid.

In parallel, Newcastle have made moves to replace Isak, including signing Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart for up to £69 million and pursuing other striker targets such as Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and Wolves’ Jorgen Strand-Larsen following Callum Wilson’s departure.

Overall, this record-breaking deal reflects Liverpool's commitment to strengthening their squad aggressively and concludes one of the Premier League's most notable transfer stories of the summer of 2025.
