Aston Villa are considering a move for Udinese and Denmark defender Thomas Kristensen, sources have told Football Insider.

The powerful defender is on Villa’s list of targets as they look to bring in a new centre-back before the close of the transfer window.

Serie A outfit Bologna are also keen on Kristensen as a potential replacement for Sunderland target Jhon Lucumi.

Everton have also looked at the Dane, but are expected to focus more on a right-back who can also play centre-back, potentially leaving Villa to battle for his signature with the Italian side.

Aston Villa have not experienced an ideal start to the new season, with a 0-0 draw to Newcastle followed up by a 1-0 loss to Brentford on Saturday (23 August) amid struggles at both ends of the pitch.

Unai Emery is yet to delve into the transfer market to reinforce his backline, and the Villans have only made two signings all summer in Evan Guessand and Marco Bizot, so more needs to be done between now and the 1 September deadline.

23-year-old Kristensen has made 52 appearances for Udinese since he joined from Danish side AGF in 2023, and he scored in their Serie A season-opener against Hellas Verona on Monday (25 August).

Football Insider revealed in January that Tottenham, Leicester and Bayer Leverkusen were all interested in Kristensen, but he stayed after none of that trio decided to submit a bid to Udinese.

Kristensen has been eyed by Wolves, Bournemouth and Como this summer, as revealed by Football Insider last month, but now it is Villa who are weighing up an approach to land him and bolster Emery’s centre-back depth.

Emery will certainly not want to lose any more first-team stars after Villa recently sold Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle, but one of his key men could soon be on the way out as another Premier League club eyes a move.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (25 August) that Tottenham are lining up a late-window approach to sign Morgan Rogers, with preliminary talks already being held with the 23-year-old attacking midfielder.

Villa’s continuing financial issues could see another sale made before 1 September, and Football Insider also revealed on Tuesday (26 August) that Aston Villa are preparing to lose Rogers to Tottenham so that they can go on a late signing spree.

One of those incomings could be Kristensen, but it remains to be seen if the Villans will make an approach for his services over the next few days.
