Celtic are readying a formal move for Lorient forward Sambou Soumano in a late-window deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The Scottish giants have registered their interest in a move for the 24-year-old, and could submit an official approach in the coming days.

Soumano scored for Lorient in their 4-0 win over Rennes at the weekend and has attracted the interest of a number of clubs this summer.

Back in June, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Sunderland, Brentford, and Burnley were all plotting moves for Soumano, but as of yet, none of the Premier League trio have made a bid.

Last season, Soumano scored 14 goals in just 11 starts to spearhead Lorient’s successful promotion to Ligue 1.

The attacker is now already off the mark in the 2025/26 campaign after his goal against Rennes.

Soumano is very highly rated in France and is expected to be rewarded for his good form with his first-ever Senegal call-up, at some point over the next few months.

Celtic are still in the market for a centre-forward, despite their summer signing of Shin Yamada, and are now preparing a last-minute attempt to complete a deal before the window closes.

Celtic want to sign a striker

Meanwhile, Calvin Stengs could be available for a “relatively small fee” this summer as Celtic prepare a bid for the Feyenoord wideman, sources have told Football Insider.

The news comes against the backdrop of Premier League interest in star wideman Daizen Maeda, who would need replacing if he departs.

Sources have told Football Insider that with Stengs into the final two years of his contract at Feyenoord, the Hoops may only have to pay a knock-down price to add the Dutch international.

Celtic have already made contact with Feyenoord over Stengs‘ availability in the final days of the transfer window, after the 26-year-old was restricted to just 12 Eredivisie appearances through injury last season.
