Stuttgart have submitted a £26million bid to sign Leicester City star Bilal El Khannouss, sources have told Football Insider.

El Khannouss is hopeful of leaving the King Power Stadium before Monday evening’s transfer deadline as he aims to return to playing at the top level.

The 21-year-old was left out of Marti Cifuentes’ squad for the 2-0 win against Birmingham City as he has had his head turned by growing interest.

Crystal Palace had been in talks to sign the attacking midfielder this summer, but the deal collapsed despite advanced talks as they opted to pursue Yeremy Pino.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 29 August that Leeds could make a late move for El Khannouss as they aim to step up their long-term interest.

However, Stuttgart have now moved to the front of the queue for his signature and are aiming to beat interested Premier League clubs to an agreement.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 15 August that Newcastle and Leeds want to sign El Khannouss before the window closes.

His performances in the Premier League last season piqued interest from top sides, and he is keen to return to the top level following Leicester’s relegation.

However, a number of European clubs including Stuttgart have joined the race and are now hopeful of reaching an agreement with the Foxes.

The attacking midfielder has three years remaining on his current contract but is widely expected to leave the club as a result of the growing interest in his signature.

Crystal Palace had been front runners for El Khannouss, but after they were unable to reach an agreement, opening the door for rival suitors to swoop.

El Khannouss is not the only player linked with a move away from Leicester in the closing stages of the transfer window, with Abdul Fatawu also attracting interest.

Football Insider revealed on 20 August that Sunderland are keen on signing Fatawu, but are unlikely to pursue their interest as a result of his lofty asking price.

The Foxes have placed a £30million valuation on the winger given his importance to their team as they remain reluctant to lose too many star players late in the window.

Sunderland are now looking at attacking alternatives and are exploring a move for versatile Red Bull Salzburg forward Adam Daghim, who attracted interest from Atlanta last January.
