Crewe Alexandra are set to sign Stockport County defender Jay Mingi on a season-long loan deal, sources have told Football Insider.
Mingi, 24, is preparing to make the switch to the League Two outfit and will undergo a medical before putting the finishing touches on the deal.
With two years remaining on his current contract at Edgeley Park, a loan deal is seen as an opportunity to prove his worth, and dropping down the leagues will allow him to do so.
The defender has yet to feature in a league game for Stockport so far this season, having made just 14 senior appearances last time out.
As a result, he is keen to spend the season on loan to play more regular football and work his way back into Dave Challinor’s long-term plans.

Mingi’s availability on deadline day set Crewe on alert as they aim to strengthen their squad with a number of late deals.
Capable of playing at centre-back as well as right-back, the defender’s versatility will also prove a valuable asset to Lee Bell’s plans for the season.

Crewe are aiming to build on last-season’s mid-table finish and have enjoyed a strong start in League Two, with new additions set to bolster their ambitions.
Mingi will join Emre Tezgel, Tommi O’Reilly, James Golding and Sam Waller among the club’s loan contingent, with Bell making the most of the short-term market.
Stockport, meanwhile, are open to letting him leave the club after landing deals for Arttu Hoskonen, Tayo Edun, Joseph Olowu, Danny Andrew, Brad Hills, Owen Dodgson and Corey O’Keeffe to strengthen their defensive options.
Stockport are not just considering outgoing deals in the final hours of the transfer window, with AFC Fylde star Taelor O’Kane also on their radar.
Football Insider exclusively revealed on 26 August that Stockport are eyeing a move for O’Kane before the transfer deadline to bolster their squad.
Peterborough United had a bid of £100,000 turned down for O’Kane last summer, and now the Hatters are plotting a swoop for his services.
O’Kane spent the second-half of last season out on loan at National League North side Chester, scoring twice in 15 league appearances.
