Middlesbrough have been informed by central midfielder Hayden Hackney that he wants to leave if a Premier League club comes in for him before the transfer window closes, sources have told Football Insider.

A number of Premier League clubs are plotting last-minute moves for Hackney before next week’s deadline.

Middlesbrough are battling to keep hold of their prize asset and do not want to lose him so late on in the window.

Hackney has played every single minute of Boro’s Championship campaign so far, and is a big part of why his side have a 100% record in the division.

Everton and Crystal Palace have both been credited with interest in Hackney, as they look to bolster their midfield options.

The 23-year-old came through the Middlesbrough academy and has been a mainstay in their senior side for the past three seasons.

Hackney has also attracted the attention of West Ham, who are in desperate need of reinforcements in the centre of the park.

Meanwhile, Everton are reportedly accelerating a move to sign Man City defender Nathan Ake as they prepare for a busy end to the summer transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that Pep Guardiola is prepared to cash in on the 30-year-old.

The Man City boss has overseen wide-scale changes to his side over the summer, and is now focusing on selling some of the fringe players to balance the books.

Ake’s ability to play at left-back would allow David Moyes to strengthen another key area of his side while also adding quality strength in depth to his defence.
