Hibernian are in talks to sign Birmingham City striker Lyndon Dykes on loan, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old forward, who has only made six substitute appearances for the Blues so far this season, could return to face Rangers and Celtic again for the first time since leaving Livingston in August 2020.

Since then, he has made 165 appearances for QPR, where he scored 37 goals and became a well-known name in the Championship, before joining Birmingham last summer.

While Premier League teams are rushing to get deals done, those north of the border have until 11pm on Monday, 1 September, allowing Hibs more time to complete a deal.

Since being promoted to the Championship, Dykes has played 23 minutes in the league, with the player’s only proper minutes coming in the Carabao Cup.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been tipped to join Birmingham as a free agent, and he could take the striker’s spot in the squad as Hibs proceed in talks ahead of the deadline.

The Blues find themselves sitting 10th in the Championship table, but with Kyogo Furuhashi, Demarai Gray, Jay Stansfield, Marvin Ducksch, and Lewis Koumas all available, Hibs will be confident of sealing a deal.

While it has been years since Dykes was playing in Scotland, he would add a new dynamic to the front line at Easter Road, given the very direct nature of his playing style.

Hibs currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership table, just two spots below Celtic, who are unbeaten in their first three league matches of the 2025/26 campaign.

Although Martin Boyle, who notched 20 goals and 11 assists in all competitions last season, is still leading the team, those around him are relatively inexperienced.

Without Dwight Gayle, who has since retired from football, Dykes’ experience and knowledge of the game could be vital for a higher finish in the Scottish Premiership.
