There are a little over two weeks left of the summer transfer window, and it’s safe to say that Liverpool could use one or two more players through the door before then.
As Arne Slot keeps mentioning, the club has let go of plenty of players who played a big role in last season’s Premier League title.
The departure of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen for £35 million initially left the Reds with just Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Joe Gomez as the only established senior central defenders heading into the new season.
However, the club moved quickly to secure Giovanni Leoni from Parma last week, with the 19-year-old defender making a £26 million switch.
But Marc Guehi remains a market opportunity to good for the club’s hierarchy to pass on.
DaveOCKOP.com revealed back in March that Liverpool held talks with Marc Guehi’s representatives.
Since then, we have also revealed that Liverpool has reached an agreement on personal terms with the England international.
With his contract expiring next summer, the opportunity to sign the Chelsea academy graduate below market value is too good to pass up.
One of the advantages of signing Guehi is his homegrown status, which will help Liverpool satisfy the Premier League’s squad registration requirements.
However, Crystal Palace’s negotiating leverage is partly constrained by Chelsea’s 20% sell-on clause, included when Guehi moved from Stamford Bridge to Selhurst Park for £18 million in 2021.
Now, DaveOCKOP.com can exclusively reveal that Liverpool are hopeful of closing the signing of the Palace skipper this week.
Liverpool is now in the final stages with a medical being organised by the Merseyside giants.
Initially, Crystal Palace tried to hold out for £45 million, but the final price is likely to be closer to a £40 million package.
Assuming everything goes smoothly, Guehi could complete his switch to Anfield by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, the post-match ‘spat’ between Palace manager Oliver Glasner and Marc Guehi after their game vs Chelsea at the weekend has been explained.
Rather than ignoring his manager, Guehi was complying with standard anti-doping procedures as he was picked for random testing at Stamford Bridge – and was eager to complete the test as quickly as possible.
